  1. Why choose Laser Hair removal?

Comments Off on Why choose Laser Hair removal?

We have explained a little about electrolysis already but what about laser/IPL hair removal and why choose laser over electrolysis or vice versa?

We feel passionate about our Ellipse IPL hair removal treatment, and understand excessive and unsightly body hair can be upsetting – affecting our social and phychological wellbeing.

Ellipse IPL uses controlled and filtered light, the energy is absorbed by the hair which creates a heat that destroys the hair root without causing damage to the skin. The light is quickly passed over the area treating many hairs at a time. Ellipse works best on dark hair which is why we still very much use electrolysis if the hair is white, red or grey in colour. If you are pale skinned and have dark hair you are the perfect laser customer. Results vary from person to person but we often find you will achieve around 85% permanent hair reduction after 6 -8 treatments. The treatment is best carried out in the Autumn and Winter seasons as you are advised to avoid sunlight for 30 days before and after treatment.

Both Electrolysis and Laser are effective ways to permanently get rid of unwanted hair, there is no doubt that of the two, Laser will achieve faster results, however if you are not the correct colouring for Laser it will be a waste of money however don’t discount electrolysis, it has been around for a long time and although can be a bit slower it will still achieve the same end result.

Please feel free to call us for advice on either of these treatments.

  2. What is Electrolysis?

Comments Off on What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is the permanent removal of hair using the epilation method. The electrologist destroys the hair growth without causing damage to the skin, which will not change in appearance or texture. Stopping hair growth is achieved by introducing a destructive force to the active reproductive area of the follicle, via a fine metal needle which ensures that damage is confined to the area where it’s specifically needed. Energy is discharged into the moist bulb area at the base of the hair follicle, ensuring maximum destruction while restricting damage to surrounding tissues. This not only results in the removal of the dead hair but also provides a reduction of the follicle’s capacity to regenerate new hair.

The length of time that it will take for permanent hair removal will vary depending on a number of factors, such as, excessive hair growth, low tolerance of discomfort or poor skin healing problems as these all affect the manner in which the treatment is applied and the timetable for treatment. In order for electrolysis to be carried out the hair must be grown so that it is visible to allow treatment. Interference with hair growth between treatments will slow the progress of hair removal. The length of time it takes to resolve the hair problem will vary and be unique to each individual.

Excessive hair growth is a common problem with the majority of individuals suffering as a result of hormonal imbalances or changes. Hormonal changes in the body are normal and cause increased activity of the follicles, turning fine hair growth into a visible and distressing superfluous hair problem. The hairs of the facial area are especially sensitive to these minute hormonal changes. A number of stages in life, such as pregnancy or the menopause, are the most susceptible to hair growth problems due to the changing or increasing of hormonal activity.

Hypertrichosis and hirsuitism are terms used to describe different hair growth conditions and act as an indicator as to the likely cause of the problem.

Hypertrichosis is defined as a growth of coarse, terminal hair which is considered excessive for the age, sex and race of the individual. it is an overdevelopment of localized extent, and its causes are not always clear. however the hair growth does not follow a male sexual pattern, and hypertrichosis is not considered to be androgen dependant.

Hirstuitism is a condition of wider, general hair growth of excessive terminal hair in the adult male sexual pattern. it can be accompanied by other male-type characteristics and is usually androgen induced, occurring in conditions where there is a hormone imbalance, for example, tumour of the adrenal or pituitary glands, problems of ovarian origin, or the menopause. Excessive hair growth may often be an indication of illness, for instance, the malfunction of certain glands ( for example ,the adrenal glands) or the presence of a cyst which is impairing the function and hormonal output of the ovaries.

Excess hair can cause a great deal of stress and a loss of confidnce. Our therapists are highly skilled and sympathetic so please feel free to call us for more information or book in for a no obligation consultation.

  4. Keri’s Make Up Tips – Eyes

This week I am going to share my top tips for great looking eye shadow whatever the occasion. Whether you prefer to keep it simple and natural looking or if you love a show stopping shimmer, Jane Iredale will have an eye shadow to suit you. Jane Iredale’s eye shadow range provides ever-lasting shades that promote crease-free, stay-put colour for a lasting look and easy-to-blend formulations that nourish those sensitive eye areas.

The range of eye shadows by Jane Iredale are a favourite of mine because no matter what look I’m going for there is a shade to suit. With the collection of eye shadows ranging from PurePressed eye shadow, eye gloss and eye steppes to lid primers and 24-karat gold dust it can be hard to know which product will be best for you. It really depends on the style or look you want to achieve as to which eye shadow will suit you.

PurePressed eye shadows are highly pigmented and easy to blend allowing for a crease-free, long lasting eye colour.

Eye gloss adds a wash of colour to your eye lid and if you want a more intense colour then I’d advise using it as a primer before applying eye shadow. A great benefit of the glosses are that they don’t fade or smudge once dry!

Eye steppes allows you to mix and match shades with its interchangeable shelves. Simply pick a compact that best matches either your eye colour or skin tone .

Lid primer adds a subtle highlight to the eye lid and can be worn either alone or with eye shadow on top to add some extra colour.

The 24-karat gold dust can be applied to eye lids for a delicately gilded look with the range of shades allowing for mix and matching to suit any mood.

Prices range from £12.00 to £39.95

  5. 85% of Woman don’t get enough Vitamin D !

Comments Off on 85% of Woman don’t get enough Vitamin D !

Vitamin D is important for strong bones and overall wellbeing but what most people don’t realise is that it is essential for healthy skin. We produce Vitamin D when we are exposed to sunlight but sadly the lack of sunshine in the UK coupled with the use of sunscreens means that around 85% of woman don’t get enough.

Vitamin D benefits the skin in three ways:

    1. The first is the ability to help skin rejuvenate itself. We lose around 30,ooo cells every minute and they are replaced by a renewal process dependant on Vitamin D. Clients deficient in Vitamin D means that their cells won’t proliferate as well as they should, the result is thin sagging skin.
    2. Vitamin D boosts the skins immunity, it speeds up healing and helps protect wounds against infection by promoting antimicrobial agents. In fact ultra violet light therapy is often prescribed for psoriasis.
    3. Vitamin D is a powerful antioxidant which fights free radicals that can cause premature ageing.

Below is a list of high Vitamin D foods :

    Cod Liver Oil

Various types of fish (particularily raw fish). Fish canned in oil will have more vitamin D than those canned in water.

Fortified cereals, although be sure to pick cereals which have little to no refined sugars and hydrogenated oils !

    Oysters.

    Caviar.

    Tofu and soy milk.

Salami, ham and sausages ( although also high in cholesterol and sodium)

    Fortified dairy products.

    Eggs.

    Mushrooms.

Although natural sunlight is the most efficient way for the body to manufacture Vitamin D (also known as the sunshine vitamin) suppliments are available from suppliers such as Holland and Barrett and Boots.

A lot depends on your skin type and the type of coverage you prefer, but there is a mineral foundation within the Jane Iredale range to suit all skin types;

Pure Pressed Base gives a beautiful sheer and semi matte finish and feels weightless on the skin.

Dream Tint, tinted moisturiser is a super absorbant tinted moisturiser that not only hydrates byt creates a soft focus effect that minimises the look of large pores and fine lines, feels very soothing and gives a lovely soft finish.

Liquid Minerals are a special liquid light reflecting formulation, looks moist and light and feels like a second skin.

Glow Time BB cream covers blemishes, minimises pores, disguises wrinkles and smoothes and brightens skin.Gives the skin a lovely luminosity and feels velvety on the skin.

Please feel free to pop in for a chat, I’d be happy to do a colour match for you. Feeling the product on the skin is the best way of deciding which base is best for you before you purchase.
