What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the permanent removal of hair using the epilation method. The electrologist destroys the hair growth without causing damage to the skin, which will not change in appearance or texture. Stopping hair growth is achieved by introducing a destructive force to the active reproductive area of the follicle, via a fine metal needle which ensures that damage is confined to the area where it’s specifically needed. Energy is discharged into the moist bulb area at the base of the hair follicle, ensuring maximum destruction while restricting damage to surrounding tissues. This not only results in the removal of the dead hair but also provides a reduction of the follicle’s capacity to regenerate new hair.
The length of time that it will take for permanent hair removal will vary depending on a number of factors, such as, excessive hair growth, low tolerance of discomfort or poor skin healing problems as these all affect the manner in which the treatment is applied and the timetable for treatment. In order for electrolysis to be carried out the hair must be grown so that it is visible to allow treatment. Interference with hair growth between treatments will slow the progress of hair removal. The length of time it takes to resolve the hair problem will vary and be unique to each individual.
Excessive hair growth is a common problem with the majority of individuals suffering as a result of hormonal imbalances or changes. Hormonal changes in the body are normal and cause increased activity of the follicles, turning fine hair growth into a visible and distressing superfluous hair problem. The hairs of the facial area are especially sensitive to these minute hormonal changes. A number of stages in life, such as pregnancy or the menopause, are the most susceptible to hair growth problems due to the changing or increasing of hormonal activity.
Hypertrichosis and hirsuitism are terms used to describe different hair growth conditions and act as an indicator as to the likely cause of the problem.
Hypertrichosis is defined as a growth of coarse, terminal hair which is considered excessive for the age, sex and race of the individual. it is an overdevelopment of localized extent, and its causes are not always clear. however the hair growth does not follow a male sexual pattern, and hypertrichosis is not considered to be androgen dependant.
Hirstuitism is a condition of wider, general hair growth of excessive terminal hair in the adult male sexual pattern. it can be accompanied by other male-type characteristics and is usually androgen induced, occurring in conditions where there is a hormone imbalance, for example, tumour of the adrenal or pituitary glands, problems of ovarian origin, or the menopause. Excessive hair growth may often be an indication of illness, for instance, the malfunction of certain glands ( for example ,the adrenal glands) or the presence of a cyst which is impairing the function and hormonal output of the ovaries.
