30. FACIALS (part 2)

Your skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and dermis. The epidermis is the outside layer, consisting of dead skin cells, on top of maturing skin cells. The top layer of the epidermis is the stratum corneum which acts as a barrier between the ‘elements’ and the lower skin layers, it keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through. When you put creams on your face, some moisture will pass through the stratum corneum. This layer is where blemishes and fine lines are found. The action of microdermabrasion takes place at this level.
The idea of the microdermabrasion is to break up the stratum corneum, the body interprets this as injury and replaces the lost skin cells with healthy ones. The skins surface is improved. Some of the skin’s visible imperfections are gone or improved, such as sun damage, blemishes and fine lines. Creams are more effective as they can now penetrate the lower layers.
After treatment your skin may be red for a short time and as some moisture will have been lost it is important to moisturise.
This treatment is not suitable for people with active rosacea, broken capillaries, active acne.
Beauty Haven offer Ecopeel Microdermabrasion, this treatment takes 1 hour. Whilst not necessary we recommend a course of Six, if you opt for the course you get your sixth Facial Free.
