IS ELECTROLYSIS PERMANENT?

IS ELECTROLYSIS PERMANENT?

Spread the love

First of all I am sure there are many of you that are wondering “What is Electrolysis?” as lately it seems to have taken a back seat from the laser and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) treatments have become more widely available both in concept and price.

WHAT IS ELECTROLYSIS?

Electrolysis is not only a method of hair removal, it is the only PERMANENT method of hair removal. It wasn’t until 1875 that electrolysis was invented by Dr Charles Michel , a St Louis ophthalmagist,  in which devised this system to remove patients painful ingrown eyelashes. In 1875 he performed his first treatment with great success despite the lack of modern sophisticated equipment.

Over the years its been improved with modern technology, in 1945 Henri St Pierre (electrologist) and Arthur Hinkle (engineer) created a new “blend” method and now this kinder, gentler and more effective method contributed towards electrolysis hair removal becoming a insiders beauty secret!

Thankfully those days when it was reserved for the elite, models and actresses are long gone.

Electrolysis treats each hair follicle individually with a very fine, disposable sterile needle. The needle is inserted easily into the hair follicle itself and once inserted a current is released which causes localized damage to the areas that generate hairs, thereby eradicating hair growth.

Electrolysis does permanently destroy the growth cells of the hair follicle, preventing treated hairs from EVER growing back. The treatment can be performed to most facial and body parts including eyebrows, chin, upper and lower lip, jaw line, sides of face, even the breasts, underarms, abdomen, bikini line, finger and toes, legs and back.

Yes, I know with lasers and IPL treatments they too can be carried out on the face and body but what lasers/IPL treatments cannot promise  is permanent hair removal, although they will definitely provide you with permanent hair reduction. Another huge benefit with electrolysis is any hair type on any skin tone can be treated. As the laser/IPL system of hair removal can only be really effective on those clients with dark hair on pale skin tones, as the light energy is attracted to the pigment in the hair itself and uses this to conduct the energy into the root of the hair. When there is no pigment within the hair ( if the hair is white, grey and blonde) then the energy isn’t able to travel to the root to be effective in preventing further hair growth.

Whereas with electrolysis the needle is inserted INTO the hair follicle , so regardless of clients hair color or skin tone the current (in this case) is released with successful results in destroying the follicles ability to reproduce. With treating each individual hair there is a drawback , it can be a lengthy process which each client must take into consideration. As we are working very closely  in a concentrated area, the time has to be limited due to the clients skin sensitively, the least time being 0-10 minutes with the longest time being 30 minutes, but take heed it doesn’t happen overnight. In your first treatment you should clearly explain your expectations of the hair removal treatment, and then the therapist can tell you whether this is the right treatment for you and whether it can achieve the results you’d like.

The number of treatments required will vary from person to person as each client will have a different density of hair growth ( eg. there may be between 50-500 hairs packed into a small area of skin tissue, whilst some clients will have less hair which is spaced out. This means that each treatment will vary, and therefore no actual figure can be put on the number of treatments required. Yet I can assure you will quickly feel and see the difference giving you the confidence to continue with your treatment course. Also not all our hairs are growing at the same time, and it can be quite a shock to find 3 or 4 hairs on your chin could actually be 30 or more hairs taking turns to grow!!

On top of this factors  like thickness, skin sensitivity and dryness need to be taken into consideration and will affect just how quickly each hair can be eliminated. The only way to deal with a large problem like hair growth is to cut it down into small manageable steps. instead of trying to just get rid of it all in one go, which I am very sorry just cant be done yet. Electrolysis treats the problem by working with the hair growth using it to prevent more hairs from growing.

I can not promise you it will provide dramatic results like when you wax and all the hairs are instantly gone, but what I will promise you is if you stick with it you will be left with permanent results and a real sense of achievement.
