BIKINI WAXING WITHOUT THE OUCH FACTOR
BIKINI WAXING WITHOUT THE OUCH FACTOR
Bikini waxing is generally quite an unappealing thing to embark upon and lets not get started on DIY bikini waxing even for myself as a trained therapist, its a whole different ball game waxing down below yourself!! That’s another story……….
Yet Summer is here, (kind of) actually that’s unfair, the weather has been great so far, but with the Summer upon us, kiddies finishing school very soon, that means holidays, which means bikini’s,which means bikini lines which means HAIR REMOVAL!! Unless you want to leave it as nature intended, then fair play, its up to you.
Nowadays we have many options for hair removal, yet waxing is one we come back to time and time again. Ladies, we all know that waxing is better than shaving, but I can understand the major ouch factor involved in ripping your hair off your skin, may just tempt you into picking up your razor instead!!
Please, Please don’t, you know you will regret it after….. what with the bristles that are left behind leaving that delightful scrathchy effect, the dark shadow and not to mention the irritated skin you want to disguise anyhow!!
Hopefully these tricks will make your waxing less painful and the whole experience just a tiny bit more pleasant …… or should I say bearable.
DON’T GROW A JUNGLE
You may try and delay it as much as you can, but waiting for your hair to grow fully is just going to make it hurt even more. We all know from experience that the more regular you are the less it hurts, so toughen up and get waxed every few weeks.
The ideal time to schedule your appointment is when your hair is about half an inch long so that its easy to grip and nothing gets left behind.
CUT OUT THE ACIDITY
Your skin can get more sensitive as the acid increases in your body, to avoid the acidity avoid drinking alcohol or coffee a few good hours before your appointment
Alcohol, coffee and smoking can all rise the acidity in the body.
So any plans on meeting up with friends for a coffee date or a glass of vino to settle your nerves…… cancel!!
Make a point to drink plenty of H2O instead.
EXFOILATE
Listen ladies we can all get a bit lazy in regards to looking after the skin on our body, yet a little bit of prep work really helps. By exfoliating, it helps to get rid of dead skin cells around your pores and this makes it easier for the hair to exit and helps reduce the risk of an ingrown hair.
TAKE A HOT SHOWER /BATH
Who doesn’t love a long, warm shower? For myself any excuse to escape the manic of the house to elope to my bathroom and engage in a hot steamy date with MR BATH!!
if you heat your skin up with a hot shower or bath, it will cause the pores to enlarge and loosen the grip on the hair follicles, the looser the grip, the less pain it should cause. Therefore taking one before you start de fuzzing is a smart move.
Avoid cold water as that can tighten your pores instead of relaxing them.
THAT TIME OF THE MONTH
Do not make the mistake of booking yourself for a wax a week right before, during or right after your period, when your skin is at its most sensitive!!
Not only will it hurt like BILLY O. but it can even cause your skin to swell.
2 weeks before or after that time of the month is ideal as your threshold for pain is much higher.
GOOD OLDE BABY POWDER
Believe me I am the worlds worst client in regards with bikini waxing, I loathe it, although needs must, and vanity wins. So yes, despite the pain I will endorse and lie on the treatment couch with the tea lights twinkling, soothing music on in the background, legs parted and fear rushing through every fibre in my body only to state at the end every time “that wasn’t too bad”.
So many years ago a very patient therapist had the misfortune of treating me and boy am I glad…… This therapist dusted a little baby powder over my skin before waxing, Why?? Well dusting baby powder over your skin can help keep the wax from pulling on your skin as it helps remove excess moisture and oils that the wax can stick to, believe me it really works.
CHOOSE YOUR SALON WISELY
It is important to do your homework and find someone with experience who will take the necessary steps to reduce pain the entire process.
POP A PAIN RELIEVER
Swallowing Asprin or a Brufen an hour before your appointment can help dull the pain as well as calm your nerves.
