Leg veins are increasingly becoming part of the workload of UK based aesthetics clinics, this is due in part to a reduction in the NHS management of uncomplicated veins but also due to patient awareness of veins.
We are increasingly aware of our own body image and also have more awareness of the ease in which leg veins can be treated. The bulk of our consultations involve mainly superficial thread veins.
The treatment protocol involves an initial consultation before a treatment plan is decided upon. Here at Beauty Haven we use IPL to treat very small superficial veins, deeper, larger veins are referred to our registered medical practitioner..IPL is useful for rapidly treating a larger area. Typically higher settings are required for a vessel of similar size on the face, and superficial blistering of the skin is not uncommon. Often good results are seen initially but early recurrence within 3 months can occur. in this circumstance often a larger underlying vessel needs to be treated. In patients with veins greater than 15mm, sclerotherapy treatment would be recommended first followed by IPL to remove any remaining vessels. As a measuring tool you could unravel a paperclip and if the vessel in larger than the diameter of the wire then we would recommend sclerotherapy over IPL.
You may be venturing to another part of the world or simply taking a day trip to the beach you’re going to need to pack your makeup. Personally if its possible I prefer not to check my bag in but rather take cabin luggage so I have everything I need to hand, These days however with so many restrictions on what you can and can’t carry on board it can be a challenge to take everything you need.Thankfully Jane Iredale has it covered. Heres a sneak peak at some of my favourite products to pack on the go:
The New Refill-Me Refillable Brush allows you to add any loose powder to it for a quick mess free application on the go. The brush feature a locking mechanism to keep your bag powder free and allows you to carry just product instead of two.
I love any of the quad bronzers for travelling as they can be used on cheeks, eyes and even lips, perfect for on the go!
The New starter kit is great for travelling, contains palmist hydration spray, pure pressed base, smooth affair facial primer & brightener and Handi brush. The case also has extra room for your mascara and lippy.

Comments Off on Learn how Ellipse can help Men with unwanted Hair.
A few years ago, hair removal for men was still something of a novelty. Sure, a few brave souls would have their shoulders and backs waxed at their local beauty salon but that was about it. How things have changed! These days, hair removal is no more unusual than moisturising. In fact, according to research company Euromonitor, 3 out of ten 18-34 year olds remove body hair regularly, with 9 out of 10 of them reckoning they look better as a result. What’s more, surveys have repeatedly shown that women prefer their men to be smooth too.
Excessive or unsightly body hair can be upsetting for both men and women and difficult or inconvenient to remove. Laser hair removal is a rapid, yet gentle way of removing unwanted hair, and is medically proven to give you permanent hair reduction.
Laser hair removal can result in permanent removal of unwanted hair. Statistics show that 60-95% of targeted hair is permanently gone after the recommended course of treatments.
Laser hair removal is an effective treatment for ingrown hairs. No more irritating skin and red bumps caused by those ingrown hairs we are all affected by.
Laser hair removal procedure is much shorter than other methods such as electrolysis. Advancements in technology means you are able to carry on with your daily routine straight away with no down time.
No more shaving or waxing! Someone can shave 11,540 times in one lifetime – with statistics like this it is easy to see why anyone would like to remove unwanted hair permanently.
Laser hair removal is carried out by our fully qualified Practitioners who are specially trained and highly experienced in carrying out laser hair removal treatments. As the laser is passed over the area being treated, the hairs are destroyed, reducing further growth and leaving a silky smooth feel even on sensitive skin.
Suitable for a wide variety of hair and skin types.
* A patch test is required prior to first treatment.
Comments Off on Pomegranate & Green Tea aid in preventing skin damage.
I’d like to share with you an interesting article I read in a monthly journal called Aesthetics.
Recent research has shown that pomegranate and Green tea may help protect against skin damage. Environmental factors such as excessive sun exposure can lead to significant increases in the level of oxidative stress in the body.
Polyphenols, a class of organic chemical compounds found naturally in food sources such as pomegranate and Green tea are known to break down reactive oxygen species rendering them harmless and can therefore decrease the overall levels of oxidative stress in the body. This study demonstrated that pomegranate significantly reduces the damage inflicted by reactive oxygen species on DNA in skin fibroblasts by 47%, proving almost as efficient as the 56% reduction provided by MitoQ, an artificially engineered antioxidant used to prevent oxidative damage to cells and reduce the risk of a variety of diseases – including cancer and Parkinson’s disease. The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Leeds and Newcastle University.
Now that the sun is out in full force (for now!) protecting your skin from damaging UV rays becomes even more important.
However, even when the sun isn’t out, or it isn’t warm, UV rays still penetrate through the atmosphere and into our skin. So this information is important all year round!
The main UV rays we will discuss today is UVA and UVB. UVA – which makes up 95% of sun rays – is nicknamed “the ageing ray”. It penetrates into the skin causing damage to the collagen, which contributes to wrinkles and skin fragility; encourages the production of abnormal elastin, which makes your complexion sallow and the skin tissues slacken due to loss of elasticity; and finally it causes a suppression of the immune system which contributes to increases in malignant and non-malignant lesions such as cold sores.
UVB – nicknamed “the burning ray” – is believed to be mainly responsible for sunburn. Whilst UVA will cause some immediate, although temporary tanning effects, UVB increases your production of melanin which results in delayed tanning that becomes visible around 72 hours after exposure. This effectively means that a tanned skin is considered a damaged skin. Protecting from burning will limit the tan effect and reduce potential damage.
Sunburn is considered a medical condition as severe burns can cause shock, fever, nausea and even death. The skin has the ability to repair about 50% of the DNA damage incurred within the subsequent 24 hour period. This means that over several days, whilst most damage will be rectified, there will always be a margin left unrepaired. Continuous exposure means that the skin will not have time to repair.
Risk factors for sunburn include fair skin, red or blonde hair, blue eyes and freckles as these skin types produce very little protective melanin pigment.
Here in Beauty Haven, we offer a range of treatments that help deal with pigmentation and from sun damage, as well as to help prevent it.
Ellipse IPL Photo rejuvenation treatment is excellent for sundamaged and pigmented skin, as well as assisting the skin to appear firmer and smoother. Prices start at £125 for half the face.
Ecopeel microdermabrasion also helps with sun damaged, uneven skin tone, as well as the appearance of fine lines. Treatment costs £60 and a course of 6 is recommended.
The number one protection from UV rays, other than completely abstaining from sunlight, is sunscreen. Solar Defense Booster SPF50 is one of our top selling products.Added to your moisturiser or foundation you will add critical UVA and UVB defense with this Broad Spectrum sunscreen for all skin conditions. Formulated without artificial fragrances and colours. A new addition to our solar range is the Dermalogica protection 50 sport (SPF50) This sheer solar protection treatment defends against prolonged skin damage from UV light and environmental assault.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for further advice on any of the products or treatments we have discussed.
