  1. A question of Toners?

Comments Off on A question of Toners?

A facial toner is designed to remove the last traces of grime and impurities stuck in your pores after you wash your face. When added to your daily routine a toner can have a positive impact on the appearance of your skin and tightness of the pores. Toners have come on a lot since the products I used in my teens and early 20’s, usually alcohol based and unknown to me at the time stripping layers of my skin.

Environ Toners are formulated with different skin types in mind,

Botanical Infused Moisturising Toner £39.This toner balances, soothes and moisturises all at once. It improves uneven skin tone and prepares the skin to absorb the active ingredients in the next applied products by ensuring the skins pH level and barrier are intact. This is an excellent professional grade toner for decongesting and hydrating.

Its also a great starting point for those who are new to Environ.

Botanical Infused Sebu-Tone Clarifier £27. This is a medium strength toner formulated to refine the appearance of oily, dehydrated and blemish-prone skin giving it a smoother appearance with a natural glow. This toner contains salicylic acid, alpha hydroxy acid and beta hydroxy acid. Salicylic acid is included to assist in the natural sloughing of the skin.

Great for those with an oily/ combination skin.

Derma- Lac Lotion £42.This is a light, highly moisturising, lactic acid based body lotion and facial toner containing medium levels of AHA’s ( Alpha Hydroxy Acids)  Derma- Lac speeds up cell renewal so is excellent for the treatment of sun-damage and rough skin texture on areas such as elbows, feet and knees leaving the skin soft and supple.

    Suitable for all skin types.

Vita Peptide Toner £46. This toner is formulated to work together with other Youth EssentiA® skin care products. It’s a concentrated toner that contains a combination of peptides that are known to work together to help boost collagen, smooth the appearance of wrinkles and improve the appearance of skin tone and elasticity, leaving a healthier looking and glowing skin.

A great product for those concerned with anti ageing.

  2. Tackling Dry Skin

Comments Off on Tackling Dry Skin

Tackling dry or problematic skin on the body can be a challenge. We are often so focused on the skin on our face that we don’t know where to begin with body products.

My favourite results driven body products and supplements as follows:

Derma-Lac Lotion is an easy to apply body lotion to stop the cycle of dry skin. It helps to soften and smooth the skin. It contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids to deeply moisturise and soften uneven skin texture revealing a well moisturised skin texture and tone. This is an alternative way to exfoliate with scratching. Perfect for Dry skins, Keratosis Pilaris ( tiny red bumps often found on back of the arms), scars, Ingrown hairs, stretch rooms, pigmentation, congestion and breakouts, rough skin and self tan users. £42

A,C & E Body Oil. I love this body oil, its so soothing on dry skin. This oil provides the skin with a high concentration of Vitamins A, C & E and antioxidants to rehydrate dry and sun-damaged skin, especially exposed areas such as decollete, hands, arms, legs and feet, it also helps nourish skin and improve appearance of uneven skin tone. Apply twice a day after your shower or bath  £43

Advanced Nutrition Supplement Skin Moisture Lock works from the inside out. A pilot study showed that individuals experienced increased hydration by 64% and improved wrinkle depth by 28% after completing a course of Skin Moisture Lock).
Hyaluronic acid is found in most cells in the body and levels decline by the time we are 60 years old, many of us have zero hyaluronic acid in our skin. Skin Moisture Lock use a a non-animal derived source of hyaluronic acid to help plump the appearance of the skin from within.
Ceramides are lipids that make up 50% of the stratum corneum. They play an important role in providing a waterproof protective barrier. Skin Moisture Lock features lipowheat oil to provide a source of glucosylceramides and ceramides. £70

    Benefits:

    – reduces the appearance of wrinkles* and plumps skin for a smoother, more youthful looking complexion

    – hydrates* dull, lacklustre skin

    – hydrates skin from the inside-out- helps retain skin moisture* for a more hydrated complexion

  3. Say Goodbye to Razors.

Comments Off on Say Goodbye to Razors.

The options for hair removal are endless, from waxing and shaving to tweezing, but laser hair removal offers a more permanent approach to getting rid of unwanted hair.

As the skin should not be exposed to the sunlight 30 days before and after laser treatment the Winter months are the perfect time to commence a course of treatments. Following your treatment we strongly recommend using an SPF30 after treatment to prevent burning or pigmentation even on a sunny day in Northern Ireland during the winter.

If you have fair skin and dark hair you are the ideal candidate for laser as you will get great results. Unfortunately, laser does not work on light, red or grey hairs. Darker skin can be treated by laser but believe it or not a darker skin can burn more easily therefore the energy is kept much lower and may require an extra session or two.

*If you are unsure if either your skin or hair colour is suitable for laser hair removal, book in for a free, no obligation consultation to determine suitability of treatment. A small area is tested with the laser and any questions you may have can be answered. At the consultation the laser technician will explain the procedure of the laser treatment and advise approximately how many treatments are required and the costs involved. No two people are the same therefore treatment plans will be discussed for your individual needs. If it turns out that laser hair removal isn’t for you, electrolysis may be option, this would be discussed at consultation.

    How does it work?

Laser hair removal works by sending the light of the laser through the pigment in the hair. This light converts to heat which damages the hair follicle and hair bulb. The sensation is likened to a flick from an elastic band.

What are the most common areas?

Popular areas for woman are upper lip, chin, underarm, bikini and lower leg. Treatment intervals on body area is 6 -weekly. Facial hair removal intervals are four-weekly, and a typical course is 6- 8 treatments.

What are the main benefits you can expect from choosing laser hair removal?

    1. Precision – Laser can selectively target hair whilst leaving the surrounding skin area undamaged.
    2. Speed – Many hairs can be treated at the same time as the laser takes a fraction of second.
    3. Cost effective – Take into account the amount spent on waxing over a prolonged period of time, usually years. Or the money spent on razors and shaving foams.
    4. Time – No need to shave every day.
    5. Ingrown Hairs – Laser hair removal tends to end this problem.

Hopefully with the implementation of the new vaccine for COVID-19, 2021 will reintroduce the opportunity for us to travel again, so if you are hoping to visit sunnier climes this year and ditch your razor in favour of smooth skin book your consultation today.

  5. What is Glycolic Acid and how should you use it?

Comments Off on What is Glycolic Acid and how should you use it?

    What is it?

Glycolic is a alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) its an ingredient found in fruit sugars such as lime and papaya and is the gold standard in chemical exfoliation.

    What are the benefits?

Our skin cells are constantly dying and regenerating, dead skin cells can clump together and embed in your pores causing dullness and acne – glycolic acid unglues dead skin cells from each other and encourages new cells to grow. The result is a brighter and smoother skin. Glycolic helps prevents wrinkles at it can increase collagen and elastin production, freckles, sun damage and melanoma respond well to glycolic and it is great for acne prone skin, it helps with blackheads, as it unclogs the pores and minimises pore size.

    How to use it?

Products containing glycolic should be used as part of your night time routine as the the product can cause photosensitivity. Whilst using this product it extra important to always use as SPF during the day ( we would recommend you do that regardless of using glycolic products).

    Caution

Allergic reactions to Glycolic are very rare, its super safe, however it’s important to note that glycolic can irritate inflammatory conditions such as rosacea, eczema or inflammatory acne. If in doubt try to test the product first on a test spot such as behind the ear. Oily skins tolerate glycolic products well, usually home products containing around 10% glycolic can be used on a regular basis however if you have a dry skin using products containing glycolic twice a week would be enough initially. Always follow with a moisturiser.

    • You shouldn’t use other exfoliates whilst using glycolic.

    Professional Treatments

Professional peels carried out by a qualified aesthetician or dermatologist use a higher concentration of glycolic than you would use at home. We used a range of peels by Mesoestetic. These Mesopeels offer concentrations of glycolic acid up to 50%. Its good tolerability by the skin and low molecular size give it outstanding transepidermal penetration capacity. A course of six peels is recommended.

  6. Treating dry, dehydrated skin.

Comments Off on Treating dry, dehydrated skin.

As the colder months approach the ceramide levels in our skin lower causing the skin to feel dehydrated and dry. If you have a dehydrated skin, your skin is lacking in water, it will then produce more oil to make up for this lack of water thus resulting in irritation, break out activity and dry patches.

    If you have this skin type, there are many ways to improve how your skin looks and feels;

    Our top 5 tips;

The best place to start is with a good skincare regime, using the correct products will be well worth the initial outlay. My favourite Environ products for a dehydrated skin are from the Focus care moisture range which have been used and recommended by many of our clients and include : Super moisturiser, Intensive hydrating serum, Alpha hydroxy night cream and Hydrating oil capsules.

Healthy skin starts from within. Skin moisture lock supplements from Advanced Nutrition Programme (ANP) retail at £70 for 60 capsules. This supplement combines hyaluronic acid and ceramides to plump and smooth the skin giving a more youthful appearance. The skin will look and feel more smooth and supple. Combining this supplement with Skin Omegas, also from ANP will stop moisture escaping and smooth out lines and wrinkles.

Avoid long hot baths or showers, avoid harsh drying soaps and moisturise your skin immediately after washing.

Cleanse with a cream or gel cleanser, avoid facial washes as these can be drying. Protect your skin with a good moisturiser and SPF before leaving the house for the day. Hydrating spays such as pommist from Jane Iredale are great to have handy during the day, packed full of antioxidants it freshens and hydrates the skin throughout the day with a quick spritz ( over your make up).

Professional skin treatments such as Environ Advanced Active Vitamin treatment or Moisture Boost cool peels will revitalise dry, tired-looking skin, revealing a healthy looking glow. Also fantastic to improve dry/dehydrated skin is our range of skin peels from Mesoestetic, these chemical peels are often used to treat dry/dehydrated skin with glycolic and lactic being amongst the mildest. AHAs are the mildest of all chemical peels. They are primarily beneficial for the treatment of very fine lines, dry and dehydrated skin, and pigment irregularities and acne. Lactic acid is very hydrating and brightening to the skin.
