If oily skin is getting you down, don’t worry—I’ve got some tips to help you manage it effectively. While oily skin can lead to blocked pores, comedones, and even scarring (especially if you tend to pick at those pesky spots), there are some benefits to having oily skin. Oily skin is typically thicker and tends to show fewer wrinkles over time. However, striking the right balance between oil control and maintaining your skin’s natural moisture is key. There are ways to reduce oily skin, lets take a look !!!

Skincare Routine for Oily Skin:

Use Gentle Cleansers
Opt for a facial wash for oily skin rather than a cream-based cleanser. One great option is Environ Sebuwash, a foaming face wash with tea tree oil and salicylic acid. It’s effective at controlling skin oiliness without stripping the skin of essential moisture. Look for products containing glycolic, lactic, or salicylic acid, as these ingredients work well for oily skin types. However, introduce them slowly to avoid irritation, and if sensitivity occurs, take a break and reintroduce them after a week.

Choose Non-Comedogenic Products
Select products that are fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, meaning they won’t clog your pores and lead to inflammation, spots, or blackheads. Keeping your skin hydrated is essential, so choose a lightweight moisturiser. Environ AVST moisturisers contain Vitamin A, which can help normalise sebum production. Introducing Vitamin A gradually into your routine has numerous benefits for oily skin, including balancing oil secretion, speeding up cell renewal, improving skin tone and texture, and providing anti-inflammatory effects.

Don’t Forget SPF
A moisturiser with SPF is ideal, but if you prefer to use separate products, look for sunscreens containing titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Environ Mineral Sunscreen RAD Shield is a great lightweight, non-oily option. While some people believe that sun exposure helps with acne, it often makes things worse by causing more breakouts. Using a good SPF protects against sun damage and can also help prevent acne.

I’m often asked’ How to stop oily skin?’ well we maybe can’t stop it but we can manage it effectively. Here are some tips to help

Additional Tips to Manage Oily Skin:

  • Don’t sleep in your makeup.
Always cleanse your face before bed to avoid clogging your pores overnight.
  • Change your pillowcase regularly.
Clean pillowcases can reduce bacteria and prevent breakouts.
  • Sanitise your mobile phone daily.
Your phone can harbor oils and bacteria that transfer to your skin.
  • Wash your hands often and avoid touching your face.
This helps prevent the transfer of oils and dirt to your skin.
  • Stay hydrated.
Drinking water won’t cure acne, but it supports your body’s overall function, including toxin elimination, which helps keep your skin healthy.
  • Recognise your triggers.
Everyone’s skin is different. For me, eliminating gluten made a significant difference in reducing inflammation and improving my skin’s appearance. It’s important to track what may trigger flare-ups for you, whether it’s stress, lack of sleep, sugar, or alcohol, and develop a plan to manage these factors.

By following these tips, you can better manage oily skin, maintain hydration, and protect your skin from damage and breakouts.
