Prescriptive Facial

This treatment is customised at every stage of the facial to ensure it is tailored for each individual. The well known skin care, Dermalogica is our product of choice.

Dermalogica have several ranges within the brand to suit all skin types.  The AGE smart range is recommended for those concerned about ageing; it uses ingredients such as retinol or argan and rose oils to help increase luminosity and encourage collagen producing activities.  For clients with red, sensitive skin the Ultracalming range is recommended and used for the facial.  Most of these products contain oats and botanical actives to help minimise discomfort and redness.  The MediBac range is perfect for those who suffer oily/congested skin.  Salicylic Acid can be found in many of the products to help stimulate natural exfoliation to clear pore congestion. Power Bright is a new addition to the Dermalogica range. These products are exceptionally good for those wanting to treat hyper pigmentation and balance out uneven skin tone.

These ranges can be combined and used at different stages throughout the facial, your therapist will chose the best products for you!

What is a Prescriptive Facial?

This facial contains an in depth skin consultation where a process called face mapping takes place.  Face mapping is Dermalogica’s unique skin analysis which provides an insight of your skin needs.  A face mapping consultation involves the face being divided in sections for the therapist to thoroughly examine inch by inch with the use of touching and looking through a magnified lamp.  A prescription sheet is completed which clearly marks where the congestion, redness, dehydration, fine line or hyper pigmentation are on the face. This takes no more than 5 minutes to carry out before deciding on the appropriate products for the results on your skin.

The treatment begins with a  double cleanse of the skin using  Dermalogica Precleanse which thoroughly removes make up and sun creams while nourishing the skin.  The next cleanser used depends on your skin type. Whilst cleansing the skin you will have the warmth of the steamer being used which will be helping open up the pores for the next stage of exfoliation and extractions if needed.

The exfoliation stage helps to remove any dead skin cells and to help brighten up the skin.  Mechanical exfoliants contain granules and are generally used on a more oily skin type. Chemical  exfoliants  are very gentle on the skin and are used for anyone with sensitive skin or thread veins.

Blackheads and milia can be a common problem for many of us.  An extraction product is applied to the skin to help loosen the blackheads/congestion to make it easier for the therapist to remove.

Following exfoliation a facial massage is carried out using serums to suit your skin type. The massage lasts for 10-15 minutes with draining movements and pressure points being used.  This can be very beneficial for those who suffer from sinus problems or migraines and headaches. The final stage of the prescriptive facial is the application of a mask; whilst relaxing with your face mask on the therapist will perform a hand or foot massage.

Once the mask has been removed, the appropriate Dermalogica moisturiser and SPF are applied.Your therapist will advise you on the correct after care products and give you some samples to try at home.

What to expect from a Prescriptive Facial.

Prepare for all of your make up to be removed and your skin examined close up for you to get the most beneficial results.  If you have sensitive skin you could leave with slight redness just from the heat and your skin being massaged and touched.  Your therapist will put a hair cap on you before the treatment to avoid any water or products getting onto the hair line however, just be prepared for a small amount to get on the hair line if your make up is applied to that point as we like to make sure all make up and residue is removed.
