Acne Treatment using I2PL
While common, most cases of acne are treatable. While some cases of mild acne can be treated with creams and prescriptions, more severe acne problems will require more advanced treatments that can take months. It is important to act early here to avoid any future scarring on your skin although once your spots are gone, you may need regular treatment of your skin for a number of years to ensure your acne stays away. The acne treatment we use here at Beauty Haven is Ellipse I2PL acne treatment.
What is Ellipse I2PL Acne Treatment?
The Ellipse I2PL acne treatment is a unique treatment that uses specifically selected wavelengths and optimised pulse duration and shape to target areas of your skin affected by acne. The light is absorbed by haemoglobin, the red pigment in the blood, which then heats the area producing a minor reaction to the sebaceous glands. This in turn slows down the overall production of oil that leads to acne, thus dramatically reducing the chance of spots and minimising the appearance of pores in general.
Including consultation and preparation you should expect to spend 20 minutes in the clinic, making this acne treatment fast and effective. A typical course of therapy will include four treatments each three weeks apart.
Now that you know what Ellipse I2PL is, let’s discuss what acne is and how it is actually caused.
What is acne?
Acne is a common skin condition mainly seen in young teenagers and adolescents but it can also affect many adults as well, often affecting confidence and self-esteem as a result. Acne is commonly characterised by red pimples on your face which are caused by inflamed or infected sebaceous glands, although these pimples (spots) can also be found on other parts of the body. They can be very painful and extreme cases will require long-term treatment.
What causes acne?
Acne is caused by tiny holes in your skin becoming blocked, leading to inflammation and inflection of the sebaceous glands. These holes are known as hair follicles and the sebaceous glands attach themselves to the follicles. The glands act as a lubricant between the hair follicles and your skin to prevent them from drying out. This is done through the creation of a substance called sebum.
Acne occurs when the glands produce too much sebum which in turn mixes with dead skin cells to block the follicle. As this is close to the skin, the follicle is Homecarepushed outwards creating a whitehead, something that many acne sufferers are familiar with.
Testosterone also plays a role in the development of acne among teenagers, with the hormone increasing during puberty. The sebaceous glands are very sensitive to hormones like testosterone, causing the glands to create more serum than is needed.
Acne and women
Acne can be very common in females, mainly due to the hormone changes that can occur at various stages in the female body. Periods and pregnancy are just two instances when acne can flare up in females while polycystic ovary syndrome can also be a common condition for causing acne.
Treating acne
There are a number of ways to treat acne, all with varying success rates. Acne treatment can take a number of months if the condition is severe enough but the main thing when dealing with acne problems is all about controlling it. As previously explained, here at Beauty Haven we use an advanced laser treatment called Ellipse I2PL which has been clinically proven to accelerate the healing process of acne.
Preparing for acne treatments
For many patients seeking acne treatments, a patch test is required before you can get treated. This is a short test will rule out any contra indications that may occur and will last about 15-20 minutes (including a consultation and skin test). It is important to use differin gel for at least 3 weeks in the build-up to your treatment to help best prepare your skin. This can be obtained on prescription and kills any bacteria present in the area that is to be treated.
Caring for your skin after treatment
Homecare is vital, there is little point in investing in Ellipse I2PL treatment unless you are looking after your skin properly at home. A skincare regime will be recommended during your consultation.
